About Friends of Eaton Park
Friends of Eaton Park was formed in 2005 and is open to everyone who wants to help safeguard this lovely historic park. We work with the park's user groups, Norwich City Council and others to promote use of the park, protect and enhance its environment and make it as accessible as possible.
Our activities include short Friday walks (meet top car park at 10 am), conservation and planting days, open meetings with speakers, wildlife and other occasional sessions - apart from those organised by Norwich City Council or other groups of course.
We meet in the Eaton Park Community Centre at 7 pm on the last Thursday of the month except in August and December. Meetings generally last an hour and a half. The Annual General Meeting is in November. All are welcome to meetings but only members can vote.
How you can help:
We value our members' support, so please join us by completing this application form and returning it to us with your subscription, renewable annually. You can attend meetings and will hear about events before they are publicised more widely. You can also join in planting and conservation or help on open days and with litter-picks.
What we have done so far:
The park was inaugurated in June 1928 and we held an open day and 80th anniversary celebration in June 2008 with organised festivities, come-and-try-it sports' sessions, and music.
Communications: we have excellent lines of communication with the Council and park staff, and we have improved our publicity with eye-catching posters. Facebook and Twitter links have been set up so we can post news as and when things happen.
Wildlife and conservation: we have done some bulb, wildflower and hedge planting, and helped British Trust for Conservation Volunteers with conservation in woodland areas. We have run several sessions with local naturalists (tree identification, moth hunt, bird walks) and will continue these in 2011.
Fundraising: we have raised about £2,000 from grants, tombolas and the sale of cards.
Other activities included public meetings with speakers, Friday morning walks, litter-picks, a park users' survey (results here), and tours during Heritage Open Days 2010.
